The Goldeneagle DVB-T2 is the latest product from Audemat, developer of the industry-leading Goldeneagle platforms for TV & Radio technologies, and it offers the same wealth of functionality and solid reliability that broadcasters and manufacturers expect from this respected brand.

Nicolas Boulay, CTO for the WorldCast Systems’ group explains, “With adoption and pre-deployment testing of DVB-T2 continuing apace, the need for a reliable and fully featured signal monitoring system was palpable. From our many years of experience delivering monitoring equipment for Analogue, ATSC and DVB-T/H equipment to leading broadcasters, we have all the customer insight and R&D expertise required to ensure that the Goldeneagle DVB-T2 will meet the needs of those at the vanguard of deploying this exciting new technology.”

The Goldeneagle DVB-T2 is capable of monitoring up to 20 channels per receiver through RF and ASI inputs and can be deployed either at a transmitter site or throughout the coverage area. Features such as audio/video streaming, automatic scanning and MPEG services monitoring provide a truly, comprehensive and professional solution. Like all Goldeneagle products, users have the option to introduce remote facility management on the signal monitoring platform using ScriptEasy software and a variety of I/O inputs. Together, these solutions form a full suite of site monitoring opportunities enabling full access to the configuration, parameter setting, alarms, notification and automatic actions of many different products at a remote site.

Service Providers Take Note! Audemat Launch New SLA Monitoring Software

SLA Monitor to be launched at IBC 2011

Bordeaux-Mérignac, 31ST August 2011, - At IBC 2011, Audemat will introduce the SLA Monitor, a software tool sure to be the ‘New Best Friend’ of Broadcasters everywhere (and their finance departments!)

The SLA Monitor offers broadcasters a means of closely monitoring the performance of service providers against any Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that are in place and easily identifying the number and duration of any infringements should they occur. This provides the double benefit of ensuring that the broadcaster is aware of the performance of their network at all times and establishing grounds for compensation if the performance is less than promised.

Coming from the highly respected Audemat stable of monitoring and control products, the SLA Monitor has been developed as a direct result of customer feedback and can be used in conjunction with all existing Audemat signal monitoring and mobile metering platforms.

“The on-going operational costs of a broadcast station constitute a major financial commitment for broadcasters and, given that the service provided is so critical, an active SLA is a must to ensure continual high quality output,” explained Nicolas Boulay, CTO of WorldCast Systems. “However, without proper monitoring of actual performance against the SLA, a broadcaster can find it difficult to raise complaints or apply for compensation for any revenue or reputation lost. Audemat’s SLA Monitor offers a truly objective method of logging and reporting all violations, bestowing the broadcaster with perfect knowledge and perfect proof.”

SLA Monitor is managed via an intuitive web interface and can be fully customized in terms of parameter setting, tolerance levels and reporting.

Audemat will be demonstrating the SLA Monitor on the WorldCast Systems’ stand 8.B50 at IBC 2011 from the 9th to the 13th September.

Audemat’s Relio Gets Upgraded

New Relio version 3 to be demonstrated at NAB Radio 2011

Miami, August 30th 2011, - Audemat are set to announce a new version of their hugely popular remote facility control unit, the Relio, at the NAB Radio Show in Chicago, September 14-16 2011.

As the monitoring specialists within the WorldCast Systems group, Audemat have sold many hundreds of Relios into leading broadcasters throughout the States and, with the new version 3, are demonstrating their commitment to staying at the forefront of broadcast remote control.

The Relio version 3 features a faster and more powerful core operating system and new audio inputs and outputs. This means that a broadcaster can use the unit to monitor audio at the site, trigger alarms or other actions on silence and even provide backup audio from the Relio itself!

Tony Peterle, Senior Applications Engineer and Audemat’s resident guru on all things remote control explained, “The Relio is now widely recognized as the industry’s new standard platform for the management and monitoring of equipment located at a remote site. With these latest feature releases, we have expanded the capabilities of the Relio yet further, building in several additional failsafe measures to ensure that the station stays on air, whatever happens!”

Audemat's Relio can be configured to connect with any equipment at a site through traditional status and metering inputs and commands (relays), or via advanced connections to other equipment using serial protocols or SNMP via an IP network. All units linked to the Relio can then be monitored and controlled locally and remotely via a variety of communications modes both network (ADSL, LAN, GSM) and local/analog (local KVM, POTS line).

The Relio will be demonstrated on Audemat’s Booth 325 at the NAB Radio Show, Hyatt Regency, Chicago, September 14th -16th 2011.

European Debut for ALERT FM Emergency Warning System at IBC 2011

WorldCast Systems Showcase the ALERT FM

Bordeaux-Mérignac, 15th August 2011, - WorldCast Systems are proud to announce the addition of ALERT FM, a comprehensive emergency warning system, to their extensive portfolio of broadcast products. Making its European debut at WorldCast Systems’ stand at IBC 2011, the ALERT FM is the perfect complement to the group’s established range of Audemat RDS encoders.

ALERT FM is already deployed extensively throughout the United States, enabling emergency managers to reach large numbers of the population with mass notifications sent via FM radio stations, SMS (text) and email.

Group VP of Sales for WorldCast Systems, Christophe Poulain, explained, “Recent events such as the earthquakes in Japan and Spain have highlighted the need for prompt and wide-reaching emergency notifications in many countries worldwide. To efficiently implement such a scheme requires the involvement of government, broadcasters and system integrators throughout the world and we see ALERT FM as the perfect approach to bring these groups together and implement a fully integrated, comprehensive and reliable solution capable of reaching millions of citizens within a matter of seconds.”

ALERT FM provides government officials at national and local levels, the ability to create and send digital alerts and messages such as weather warnings, evacuation instructions or security notices to recipients based on geographic or organizational groupings. Messages are delivered to the data subcarrier of existing FM transmitters and then on to multiple fixed and mobile receiving devices equipped with a standard FM chip. The overlapping signals of FM stations ensure rapid message transmission even when other communications systems are disrupted

FM broadcasters participating in this network become a critical link in local emergency communication and gain the ability to generate revenue from their RDS capabilities.

The Alert FM solution will be demonstrated on WorldCast Systems’ stand 8.B50 at IBC, Amsterdam from the 9th to the 13th September 2011.

APT Herald the Next Generation of the WorldNet Oslo

New AOIP NextGen Card To Be Announced at IBC 2011

Belfast, 25th August 2011, - APT, the audio codec specialists within the WorldCast Systems group announce the new generation of their highly successful WorldNet Oslo audio multiplexer at IBC in Amsterdam, September 2011.

“The ‘Next Generation’ begins here,” commented Kevin Campbell, Sales Director for APT. “IBC sees the launch of a revolutionary new codec card for the unit, the “AOIP NextGen” and we have scheduled several other new releases throughout 2012 which will ensure the Oslo remains unrivalled in the industry in terms of performance over IP, audio quality, stability and channel density.”

Fully compatible with hundreds of existing Oslo units already deployed, the new AOIP NextGen card combines audio, IP transport and auxiliary data on a single module providing the user with exceptional Audio over IP performance, as well as amazing scalability and flexibility. It also features APT’s new award-winning technology, SureStream, which enables broadcast quality audio over public internet links, thus creating huge operational savings for broadcasters.

Explaining the benefits to the user, Campbell commented, “Each AOIP NextGen card is capable of decoding four separate streams from four separate sources or time domains, eliminating the issues of clock drift associated with streaming multiple channels over IP to a single decoder. The AO¬¬IP NextGen card can therefore decode any channel, in any audio format, from anywhere.”

With six cards per Oslo and 4 channels per card, the unit is therefore able to decode up to 24 streams, even discrete monos with independent bitrates and algorithms, from independent locations. The IP performance is increased yet further thanks to the fact that each AOIP NextGen card handles its own IP traffic, avoiding any bottlenecks in the system, and embedded aux data means there is no need for to invest in additional cards.

Commenting on the announcement, Campbell stated, “IBC is a hugely fitting venue for the launch of this, the first of the Next Generation of Oslo releases. The WorldNet Oslo has for several years now been the choice of many major European broadcasters as the key platform for multiple channel audio delivery over E1 and IP links throughout public and private networks. Key to the unit’s success has been its evolutionary design and the fact that APT’s R&D team recognise the importance of constant updates and upgrades to ensure it remains at the vanguard of the industry.

The AoIP NextGen card will be on display on the APT / WorldCast Systems stand 8.B50 in IBC Hall 8 from the 9th to the 13th September 2011.

Broadcasters Don’t Have to Pay for WorldCast Systems’ Products?

New Money Saving Initiative for Broadcasters Launched at IBC 2011

Bordeaux-Mérignac, 17th August 2011, - WorldCast Systems, the broadcast manufacturing group consisting of leading brands, APT, Ecreso and Audemat will launch a major new initiative at IBC 2011, under the unusual headline of “You Don’t Have to Pay for WorldCast Systems’ products.”

The instigator of the initiative, Group President Bruno Rost, explained further, “We have developed a number of innovative products and technologies throughout our group with one common theme; they all enable the broadcasters that use them to make such significant cost savings in such a short period of time that, essentially, you don’t have to pay for the products – they pay for themselves!”

Rost continued, “From APT’s SureStream technology, enabling the use of the open internet for professional audio transport and Ecreso’s highly efficient range of FM transmitters, right through to Audemat’s highly intelligent Signal Monitoring and Facility Control devices, our products ensure operational costs are kept to a minimum with no compromise to the station’s quality of output or reliability. Research has shown that return on investment from expenditure on a WorldCast product can occur in as little as 6 months.”

While audio over IP is not new by any means, the pioneering techniques employed in APT’s SureStream technology enable broadcasters retain the audio quality and reliability associated with E1 and ISDN links while using inexpensive IP connections. The monthly cost of a typical ADSL link can be as little as 5-10% that of a synchronous link, not to mention the convenience of utilising IP links such as wireless 3G, 4G, LAN, WAN and WiFi. Similarly, with an efficiency rating of up to 74%, Ecreso’s new FM transmitter range offers the most efficient cost/watt ratio and lowest heat dissipation available on the market today.

The initiative is not purely promotional in nature. So confident are WorldCast Systems in their claims, that they are inviting broadcast engineers to complete a “Money Saving Challenge” outlining some basic details of their existing network. WorldCast staff will then examine the data, highlighting areas where cost savings can be achieved. Everyone who responds to the challenge will also be entered into a draw to win an iPad2 so broadcasters truly have nothing to lose and a lot to gain!

Those interested in entering the challenge can do so at www.worldcastsystems.com , at the WorldCast Systems’ stand at IBC, 8.B50 or at NAB Radio Show, Booth 325.

Accolades Continue for APT’s SureStream Technology

SureStream Selected as “Top 10 Most Innovative in Design” by IABM

Belfast, 15 August 2011, - APT, the audio codec specialist within the WorldCast Systems’ group, today announced that its ground-breaking new SureStream technology is one of only 10 innovations to be selected as an IABM Design Awards Candidate in the 2011 Awards for Design & Innovation.

Held annually at the IBC tradeshow in Amsterdam, the IABM’s esteemed awards program recognizes products that tangibly aid the progression of the broadcast industry. Shortlisted as one of the “Top 10 most innovative in Design”, APT’s SureStream technology enables broadcasters to reap the benefits of lower cost, open internet links while maintaining broadcast-grade audio and reliability. From the shortlist of 10, winners will be announced at IBC on September 10, 2011.

This latest accolade follows hot on the heels of the success of SureStream at the 2011 NAB Show, where it was selected for both a Radio World “Cool Stuff” Award and a Radio Magazine “Pick Hit”.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for yet another prestigious award," commented WorldCast Systems’ group President Bruno Rost. "The R&D team at APT has worked hard to develop this highly innovative technology, so we are very pleased with the nomination and look forward to the awards ceremony at IBC."

“Being short-listed for such an award is a real acknowledgement of the potential that IP networks can bring to the broadcast industry. Up until now, many broadcasters have understandably shied away from this potential because of issues of audio quality and dubious reliability. With SureStream, we believe we have the key to opening up this vastly more flexible and considerably less expensive transport method to the professional broadcaster.”

APT will be demonstrating the performance of SureStream technology on the WorldCast Systems’ booth at IBC 8.B50 from the 9th -13th September 2011.

Asian Debut for New IP Audio Codecs & FM Transmitters at Broadcast Asia 2011

WorldCast Systems Showcase Latest Award-Winning Products

Bordeaux, 7th June 2011, WorldCast Systems will bring their latest, new and award-winning product ranges to Asia for the first time during the 2011 Broadcast Asia exhibition in Singapore, 21 – 24 June.
The group’s new innovations span the complete range of the radio broadcast chain with new IP audio codecs, FM transmitters and facility remote control units.
From the APT stable, comes a brand new generation of IP audio codecs featuring ground-breaking IP technology that received several awards at the 2011 NAB Show in Las Vegas.

The WorldCast Horizon NextGen is the first IP audio codec to feature the company’s new “SmartIP” package of advanced IP techniques and the revolutionary SureStream technology.

Utilising sophisticated packet resequencing methods, SureStream enables broadcasters to obtain the audio quality and link reliability traditionally associated with T1 and E1 links utilising only inexpensive public internet connections such as ADSL, wireless 3G and 4G, LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi. Any combination of these can be used in a dual streaming configuration to provide additional levels of redundancy.

In addition to the functionality offered by SmartIP, the WorldCast Horizon NextGen offers a wide range of essential broadcast features on a solid DSP platform. With many algorithms including Enhanced apt-X and Linear audio supplied as standard, optional dual IP ports, audio back-up and redundant power supplies, the Horizon NextGen provides high feature density at an extremely competitively price.

Also on display at the WorldCast Systems’ stand at Broadcast Asia will be the new Digital Series of FM Transmitters from Ecreso. Encompassing several power ranges from 20 W up to 10kW, the new transmitter range combines the wealth of experience and solid reputation of Ecreso with the very latest cutting-edge technology. The core of the new range is Ecreso’s new Helios, a world-class exciter that incorporates an FM Band “Direct to Frequency” digital modulator for exceptional signal quality and performance.

This digital exciter is available as a standalone modulator in 20 W or 100 W versions or can be combined with the new Goliath amplifiers for applications requiring higher power. For medium power applications (750 W to 2.5 kW), broadcasters can also opt for an integrated “Compact” solution which integrates the amplifier into the Helios unit to reduce space, cabling and hardware requirements.

Also featured in Singapore will be Audemat’s Mini Control Silver, a compact yet highly powerful system for managing and monitoring remote equipment. It can be configured to connect with any equipment at a remote site through serial ports, status or metering inputs, commands (relays) or IP.

The key advantage of the Mini Control Silver is the Scripteasy software that is supplied as standard on the unit. Enabling the user to configure and control every aspect of a studio or transmitter site, the Scripteasy software suite is currently utilized in hundreds of broadcast facilities worldwide and in the networks of major broadcast networks. With the Mini Control Silver, WorldCast Systems is making this powerful application available in a compact size and at a highly affordable price.

WorldCast Systems will exhibiting the products listed above at Stand 4N3-06 at Broadcast Asia at the Suntec Singapore from the 21st-24th June 2011.

AUDEMAT: PARTNER OF SENIOR CHANNEL PROJECT

Audemat is pleased to announce their participation in the SeniorChannel project, an initiative supported by the European Union and the French National Research Agency to encourage greater interaction between senior citizens and the wider community.

SeniorChannel is an Interactive Internet Protocol Television Channel (SENIORCHANNEL) that will not only provide elderly people with a method of interacting but also with a unique means of access to the range of diverse activities in their community.

Audemat, an international manufacturer of broadcast equipment based in Bordeaux-Mérignac has applied its considerable R&D skills and abilities to take an active role in this project. The team have undertaken the design and manufacture of a set-top box, installed a Video Database Server for Video on Demand and participated in the test phase of the project.

Audemat president, Bruno Rost, stated, “We are delighted to play a critical role in such an important project and will work hard to ensure its success.”

About the Senior Channel project

The goal in project SeniorChannel is to integrate innovative technologies and high added value content in order to provide elderly people with an opportunity to interact and share their knowledge, opinions and aspirations with the wider community and derive enjoyment from the experience.

Furthermore, SeniorChannel will give elderly care professionals an innovative approach to developing and managing the specific social needs of the elderly in the wider community.

To achieve this goal, SeniorChannel will develop an Interactive Internet Protocol Television Channel (SENIORCHANNEL) that will not only provide elderly people with a method of interacting but also with a unique means of access to the range of diverse activities in their community including the opportunity to share knowledge and experience, the ability to participate in topical debates, entertainment services, work-shops and discussion groups regardless of their geographical location.

The unique approach to be adopted by the SeniorChannel consortium is to develop and implement a low cost, easy-to-use, integrated TV studio and production centre that will enable community driven broadcasting. SeniorChannel will also provide new business opportunities through direct access to a growing segment in the market.

Why Senior Channel project?

The vision in project SeniorChannel is based on the assumption that the quality of life for elderly people in our communities will be improved if advanced network technologies can be used to facilitate engagement and interaction amongst the elderly, both directly and indirectly. As people get older, their roles in life and the community change.

They retire from professional life and relinquish the responsibility that comes with parenthood, this can lead to disengagement as they feel their involvement in society is less valued compared to when they were younger and more active. SeniorChannel will provide a direct improvement to the quality of life for elderly people by offering a practical solution to addressing this issue by giving elderly people a means of engaging in, and contributing to, their communities while providing an indirect improvement to quality of life by raising the profile of elderly issues and concerns in society.

Moreover, SeniorChannel will improve the quality of life of elderly people by providing a means by which the elderly can express their creative talents, share their experience, their hopes and aspirations for the benefit of society as a whole.

2011 Eurovision Song Contest Broadcast with Help of APT’s WorldNet Oslo

A Reliable Platform for Live Event Coverage

Belfast 17 May 2011,- West Deutscher Rundfunk (WDR), radio host-broadcaster of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest employed their trusty WorldNet Oslo to deliver the show’s audio to millions of listeners throughout Europe.

Operating over an E1 link, a WorldNet Oslo located in the Düsseldorf Arena transported several stereo and mono feeds to the “Funkhaus” in Cologne. From there, the audio was sent onwards to an eagerly awaiting audience via the local radio networks and the Euroradio satellite uplink at the “ARD Sternpunkt” in Frankfurt.

The unit was required for three live events in total; the two semi-finals held on the 10th& 12th May and the Grand Final on the 14th. Utilising the Enhanced apt-X coding algorithm on the Oslo multiplexer ensured that there was no degradation of the audio en route to WDR’s fellow Euroradio broadcasters.

As the WorldNet Oslo already forms the backbone of the audio distribution network within WDR and several other ARD members, it was an obvious choice for an occasion such as this. Heinz Peter Reykers, System Engineer with WDR explained it simply saying, “We plugged it in, we switched it on and it worked. When broadcasting high-pressure live events to an audience of millions, this is the kind of equipment you need to ensure that you have one less thing to worry about!”

The WorldNet Oslo is the agreed platform for sharing stereo and 5.1 content between all member broadcasters of the European Broadcasting Union. To date, this has been done chiefly using E1 links but several broadcasters are in the process of migrating to deployment over IP infrastructure.
